users Post

Throughout this term I have been writing about pancreatitis and its effects on human body, but now with these series of post coming to an end I feel that there is one last post to complete information on pancreatitis. This being its lasting effects on human body, some effects that pancreatitis can produce is with damage to the pancreas the enzymes that are produced to help regulate blood sugar can become damaged or non-responsive this being people who have an acute long-term pancreatitis typically will develop some sort of blood glucose problem typically this presents itself as hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough glucose in the body, This intern affects how the human body works. For instance hypoglycemia Will typically cause the human body to feel sluggish or have you feel tired. This is all due to the fact that there is less sugar in your blood. Other facts that can come from pancreatitis is the desensitization of pain felt throughout the human body, this is a rare case because it's not reported from everyone with pancreatitis. This desensitization increases the pain tolerance other person, this can be problematic because if a person with this hurts them self then he or she could have the potential to push themselves to the point of damaging more of their own body.

Living With Pancreatitis

Depending on the form of pancreatitis living with this illness can be manage quite easily. For a mild case of pancreatitis (pancreatitis which does not have consistent pain) a standard living condition would be to avoid fatty foods, avoid alcohol, smoking and other activities that would be hazardous to you're health. Also with the mild case of pancreatitis exercising and finding stress relief techniques will help aleve this ailment.
For a chronic or severe case of pancreatitis it is sometimes necessary for someone with this ailment to be hospitalized, the reason for this is for the patient to be treated with IV fluids to supplement nutrients. This helps the pancreas by allowing it to not work as hard and to allow the Digestive enzymes that would activate inside the pancreas to subside and be eliminated from the area in and around the pancreas.

Hospitalization

Although pancreatitis is considered harmful to the body, only in rare cases is there an actual need for patient to be hospitalized with pancreatitis. The most common cases of pancreatitis that are sent to the hospital or the acute based forms of pancreatitis. This is when digestive and times suddenly activate inside the pancreas causing inflammation and swelling of the pancreas. Typically if this were to happen the patient would stay 3 to 5 days in the hospital. However if there is a cute pancreatitis begins to effect other organs then the patient will stay in the hospital longer until here she is cleared.

How the Pathophysiology is acquired

Pancreatitis is not a an illness that is genetic, or something that can be transmitted. However Pancreatitis is typically acquired by damage to the pancreas,  in which the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) stimulates the grown of cells in the pancreas causing the synthesis of extracellular matrix proteins. Pancreatitis is also caused by chronic use of drugs and alcohol.
Picture above is of a patient who has been in a motor cycle accident who has also had heavily drinking problems in the past. The thin white line in the image is of a growth off the pancreas.

Symptoms, Prognosis and treatment options

Symptoms of pancreatitis include abdominal pain that usually stems from behind the bottom left rib that extends to the through to the back. Symptoms also include nausea and vomiting, and tenderness when the abdomen is touched.

As pancreatitis goes their is no real treatment for it, however there are some steps that doctors take in order to help some one with pancreatitis. First of these is that your doctor may decide to hospitalize you to give IV fluids and monitor your pain. these are steps are for more geared towards those whose pancreatitis is due to gallstones. Other treatments for pancreatitis include surgery to remove any gallstones in the body, or to remove the fluids or deceased tissue in the pancreas.
As for chronic pancreatitis doctors may recommend that you see a pain specialist if your experiencing long term pain or discomfort. Doctors may also recommend that you change your diet or take enzyme supplements so as to help your body break down nutrients from you food.

The prognosis for pancreatitis is typically good. Their are few instances in which pancreatitis causes other problems, however that is not to say that their are not any complications that can arise from pancreatitis. Some of which are breathing problems, infections, diabetes and cancer.

Physiology of Pancreatitis.

Pancreatitis is a disorder in which the enzymes that are normally secreted to help the digestive process and balance glucose levels are activated inside of the pancreas due to inflammation. This causes the pancreas to begin attacking and damaging the same cells that produce these enzymes. The reason these enzymes begin to activate early is that the pancreas becomes inflamed which can be due to a number of issues, some of them being heavy alcohol use, gallstones, infections and certain medications. Pancreatitis exist in two different forms acute and chronic, acute being the lesser of the two.

Acute pancreatitis typically develops very quickly but resolves itself within a matter of days to weeks, although it can be considered life threatening acute pancreatitis it's typically the less severe version of pancreatitis.

Chronic pancreatitis however is considered to be a more threatening version of this disease because of its prolonged damage on the pancreas. This form of pancreatitis is typically brought on because of the pancreas has become permanently injured, order heavily scarred. Permanent injury or scarring of the pancreas can come from either stress, excessive alcohol use or less commonly drug use. Because of the chronic nature of this disease and increase damage of the pancreas tumors as well as diabetic issues are typically seen after just a few years of this prolonged disease.

Introduction

Hey Guys

For this blog I'm going to be writing about pancreatitis, and it's different effects on the body.

The reason I'm writing about pancreatitis Is because this is something that I myself have been diagnosed with. My ultimate goal with these blog posts are too educate and inform others about what causes pancreatitis, and what some of the secondary effects could be. My plan for this semester's blog posts is to research and determine the ultimate effects of pancreatitis on the human body.
